Coastal day of outdoor drawing & printing

Come join us for a fun-filled day of creativity at Botany Bay Beach.

A great re-introduction for those who haven't done any art work for a while but also suited to working artists for a challenge, to push yourself, push through creative blocks and have an intensive weekend of production. There is no pressure on final products as the processes themselves will be invigorating and refreshing.

Using different techniques from the Saturday workshop, the morning will be spent on the beach drawing on a smaller scale, also using the written word and printing with recycled materials using a mixture of drypoint and monotype methods.

After lunch we will draw by the sea on a large scale, using experimental and experiential techniques, working with our whole bodies and connecting with our surroundings. You will go home with drawings and prints, invigorated and full of sea air.

You will need to bring a packed lunch, apron and wear weather-appropriate clothes. The day will take place even if it is raining, but may be cancelled if it is too windy. The workshop is less suitable for people who have difficulties with mobility but contact Fiona directly to discuss this ([email protected]). More information will be sent to participants nearer to the time.

Frequently asked questions

What if it rains?

We will still draw if it is raining, as I have suitable equipment and a gazebo, but you will need to wear waterproofs. If it looks too windy I will have to cancel the event. I will be in touch nearer to the time with information.

Is it suitable for those with restricted mobility?

We will be walking up and down a steep slope, along sand, rocks and seaweed. We will be carrying our bags and light chairs, so it may be difficult to navigate with restricted mobility.

Is there a toilet?

There will be temporary toilets at the top of the beach until the end of September.

What do i bring with me?

I will provide all of the art materials. You can bring an apron and any special pens or paper that you love, if you want to. I will provide tea/coffee in the morning but you will need to bring a water bottle and lunch. You may want to bring a lightweight chair on the beach walk.

what should i wear?

Wear weather-appropriate clothes and shoes. Walking boots are a good option. Bring an apron and wear clothes that can get messy!

Parking

There is a small free car park by the beach and some local road parking.
